Who Is God?

God is the very essence of everything you know to be good and beautiful and true. He is so complete that He needs nothing other than Himself. He is wholly self-sustaining. In fact, He Himself embodies existence. All other forms of existence are the creative overflow of His own. He cannot cease to exist, and nothing can exist apart from Him.

Every idea, every virtue, every characteristic…He is all of it, to infinity in every direction. Logic, creativity, passion, serenity, order, spontaneity, immensity, intricacy, power, precision, supremacy, intimacy, solemnity, gaiety, justice, mercy. He is the unity of all of them.

At odds as they may seem, justice and mercy do not contradict one another. He is smart enough and strong enough to unite them: He is their union. His coexisting omnipotence and humility permit Him to both administer and receive His own justice. His completeness is more than enough to satisfy any and every lack…including yours and mine. And the good news is: He loved us enough to actually do it.

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how fathomless his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has first given to God, that God needs to repay him? For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever
~ ‭‭Romans‬ ‭11:33-36‬
